Original Items: Only One Group Available. This is a wonderful example of what appears to be a Korean or Chinese Prisoner of War sheet steel constructed American Tank, which looks like a basic “generic” tank. We believe that the tank may have been inspired by the British Centurion line of tanks due to the sidewalls over the tank treads, much like the Centurions utilized during the war. The overall condition is quite nice but does feel like it spent many years as a favored child’s toy.

The tank came to us from the American Armoured Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser's donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when this tank was acquired.

The condition as stated is quite nice, but as with any product that is reaching over 70 years old, there is the expected cracking and splits in the solder that was used to hold everything together. The OD Green paint is retained quite well with some loss scattered throughout. There are markings present on the tank that may identify it from the serial number but we have come up short in known public databases, making this an excellent research opportunity. Measures approximately 10 ¼"L x 6"W x 6 ½”H with a 7 ⅜” long barrel.

The model comes with a lovely framed grouping of PoW camp photographs of Chinese and North Korean Soldiers. The liberty pass is named to a Private Herbert H. Weston who served with the PW Service Unit #3, 6120th AU, a unit that we unfortunately have not been able to locate any information on. The photographs are in a frame measuring 12 ¼”W x 22 ¼”H x 1 ¾”. We believe this may have been a Camp Designation but due to scant records on both Weston and his unit, it has been difficult to decipher, making this an excellent research opportunity.

Comes more than ready for further research and display.
